Chrome Extension
Privacy Policy — Cookie Cutter
Last updated: July 13, 2026
Cookie Cutter ("the Extension") is a Chrome browser extension that automatically declines cookie consent banners on the websites you visit. This Privacy Policy explains what data the Extension handles and how.
Summary
Cookie Cutter runs entirely locally in your browser. It does not send your browsing data to any external server and does not require an account. The only data ever shared with a third party is the payment email for the optional Pro upgrade, handled by the payment processor (see Payments). The Extension reads the page you are on only to find and click the "decline" button of a cookie banner on your behalf.
How it works
When a page loads, the Extension looks for a cookie consent banner and clicks its "decline" / "reject all" button for you — so you do not have to. It is deliberately conservative: it never clicks "accept," "agree," or "allow." This all happens on your device, in the page you are already viewing. No information about the page leaves your browser.
What data the Extension handles
The Extension stores the following on your device only (using Chrome's local storage):
- Your settings (the global on/off switch and the deep-cleanup preference)
- The list of sites you have paused
- Any per-site hide rules you create (the elements you chose to hide)
- A lifetime "banners handled" counter and a rolling count of the last few days
That is the entire dataset. It never includes the content of the pages you visit, your browsing history, or which sites you went to.
What the Extension does NOT do
- Does not collect your name or any account information.
- Does not transmit your browsing data to any server we own or operate.
- Does not sell your data to anyone, and shares data with third parties only to process payments (see Payments below).
- Does not use analytics or advertising services.
- Does not track your browsing across the web.
- Does not store the content of pages you visit.
Payments (optional Pro upgrade)
Pro features are unlocked through a one-time purchase, processed by ExtensionPay (ExtPay) securely via Stripe. To confirm whether you own Pro, ExtensionPay handles your payment email address — that is the only personal data involved, and it is used solely to verify your one-time purchase. Cookie Cutter itself never sees your card details and stores no payment information.
Permissions explained
- storage — saves your settings, paused sites, per-site rules, and the banners-handled counter locally.
- all-sites content script (
<all_urls>incontent_scripts) — required so the Extension can find and click the decline button of a cookie banner on any site you visit. It uses this access only to dismiss banners and to apply rules you created; it does not read or transmit page content. - activeTab — lets the popup read the address of the tab you are currently viewing (only when you open the popup) so the per-site pause toggle and saved-rules list can show the right site.
- host access (
https://extensionpay.com/*) — used only by the ExtensionPay payment integration to confirm your Pro status.
Data retention and deletion
Your data remains in your browser until you clear it or uninstall the Extension. Uninstalling removes all data the Extension has stored. We have no copy of it on our side because none was ever sent.
Children's privacy
The Extension is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from anyone.
