Chrome Extension
Privacy Policy — Tab Manager
Last updated: July 13, 2026
Tab Manager ("the Extension") is a Chrome browser extension that groups your open tabs into color-coded categories and saves browsing sessions you can reopen later. This Privacy Policy explains what data the Extension handles and how.
Summary
Your tabs, sessions, rules, and settings stay on your device. The Extension does not upload your browsing data, does not require an account, does not use analytics or advertising, and does not share or sell information. The only time it contacts the internet is an anonymous check of whether you've purchased the optional one-time Pro upgrade (and, only if you choose to upgrade, the secure checkout).
What data the Extension handles
The Extension stores the following on your device only (using Chrome's local storage):
- The sessions you choose to save — for each saved session, the tab titles and URLs in that session
- Any custom grouping rules you create (Pro)
- Your settings and preferences
That is the entire dataset, and it stays in your browser — it isn't uploaded to us.
How it works
When you click "Group All Tabs," the Extension reads the title and address (URL) of your open tabs to sort them into categories using built-in, rule-based matching — entirely on your device, in the moment. When you click "Save Session," it stores the current set of tabs locally so you can reopen them later. The Extension has no permission to read the content of the pages you visit.
Payments (optional Pro upgrade)
Tab Manager is yours to use. It offers an optional one-time Pro upgrade that unlocks backup/restore and custom grouping rules. Payments are handled by ExtensionPay (a third-party service) using Stripe:
- To know whether you're on Free or Pro, the Extension makes an anonymous plan check to ExtensionPay. This check carries no personal information and nothing about your tabs, sessions, or browsing.
- If you choose to upgrade, you enter your email and card details on ExtensionPay's secure hosted checkout page. The Extension never sees or stores your card number. ExtensionPay and Stripe process the payment on their side.
- ExtensionPay keeps a small, anonymous record of your plan status so your Pro access works across your signed-in browsers. That record never includes anything you do inside the Extension.
What the Extension does NOT do
- Does not collect your name, email, or account information (payment details go directly to ExtensionPay/Stripe, never to us).
- Does not upload your tabs, sessions, rules, or browsing history.
- Does not share or sell data to third parties.
- Does not use cookies, analytics, or advertising services.
- Does not track your browsing across the web.
- Does not read the content of the pages you visit.
Permissions explained
- tabs — to read the title and URL of your open tabs so they can be grouped by category and saved into a session.
- tabGroups — to create and color the native Chrome tab groups that grouping produces.
- storage — to save your sessions, rules, and settings locally on your device.
- host access (
https://extensionpay.com/*) — used only by the ExtensionPay payment integration to confirm your Pro status and (if you upgrade) process the one-time purchase. It is not used to access any website you browse.
Data retention and deletion
Your data remains in your browser until you delete it inside the Extension or uninstall the Extension. Uninstalling removes all data the Extension has stored on your device. We have no copy of it, because none was ever sent to us. Any payment record is held by ExtensionPay/Stripe under their own terms.
Children's privacy
The Extension is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from anyone.
