Routines and single habits

A routine is an ordered set of steps, such as water, stretch, shower, vitamins. Tick the steps one at a time and the routine counts as done when the last one is ticked. A habit with nothing to break down is a routine with a single step, so it appears on the same screens and gets the same figures.

How the streak works here

A missed day ends a streak, as it does anywhere. What the app leads with is the rate over the last 30 days, because one missed Tuesday says much less than three weeks out of four. Your best streak is kept on record even after a run ends. A day you mark as skipped is a planned rest day: it does not end a streak and it is left out of the rate, which is not the same as missing one.

Choosing a schedule

Daily, certain weekdays, a number of times a week, every few days, or once a month on a date you pick. A number of times a week is a target for the week rather than particular days, so it is judged when the week ends. Pick the 31st for a monthly routine and a shorter month uses its last day.

Reminders

Open a routine, turn on Reminder, and pick a time. iOS asks for permission the first time. By default, a reminder does not name the routine; it simply says, "A routine is due now." If you would rather it named the routine, turn that on in More, under Reminders. Reminders are set ahead on this device, so open the app now and then and the next ones are set. For a target of a number of times a week, the reminder comes on days you have not met the target yet.

Pausing and archiving

Pause a routine while you are away or unwell. Paused days are not counted as due, so they neither break a streak nor count towards a rate. Archive one you have finished with: its record is kept and stays out of your current figures.

Moving to a new phone

In More, choose Back up everything. Save the file to iCloud Drive or another place you can reach from the new phone. On the new phone, install Local Routine Tracker, open More, and choose Restore a backup. The backup is not locked with a password. Anyone who has the file can see your routines and your record, so keep it somewhere private.

Restoring your purchase

In More, choose Restore Purchases. Pro returns on every iPhone or iPad that uses the same Apple Account you bought it with.

What this app is not

Local Routine Tracker keeps the record of what you decided to do. It is not a medical, health or fitness adviser, it does not judge whether a routine is good for you, and nothing in it is advice. Ask someone qualified about anything that touches your health.
